Issue 6: Annual Reviews
Hey Everyone!
This week's edition of Andy's Newsletter is a Special Edition™️. I'm a big fan of completing an annual review sometime between Thanksgiving and the end of January.
Some time ago, I read Conscious Leadership Group's The 15 Commitments of Conscious Leadership, and they claimed (sadly without citing the research) that current research on leadership showed four competencies are the best predictors of sustained success in a career: self-awareness, learning agility, communication, and influence. Annual reviews are terrific ways to both grow your self-awareness and learn a lot in a short period of time.
Given that Thanksgiving just wrapped up, I figured this was the perfect time to share a number of annual review workshops and templates in case you're thinking of doing a review this year.
Reboot Your Year: A Workshop: Running on Friday, December 10th for $299 (so book soon!), I'm personally excited to be participating this year. The Reboot crew is fantastic. They put so much thought into their events, programming, and methodology that I'm sure this will be a terrific use of time.
The Ultimate Annual Review (Steve Schlafman): Steve is a fellow founder coach, and he's terrific. He's been one of a few of my sherpas as I decided to coach and now am honing my skills. This is the second year he's put out an annual review template. If you're more of the self-guided type, this could be a great option.
How to Complete Your Own Annual Review (And Why You Should) (Fadeke Adegbuyi): I got the privilege of working with Fadeke at Holloway where she wrote The Holloway Guide to Using Twitter. She's a deep thinker, thoughtful human, a terrific writer, and you won't regret following her guidance here.
Reflecting Forwards(Jonny Miller): Jonny has devoted his life to being "the breathing guy." He runs a course on mastering your nervous system, coaches founders, and is one of the more thoughtful people I've run across in the last five years. Anytime he puts something out there I'm excited to try on his perspective.
The Ultimate 2021 Annual Review Workshop (Khe Hy): Khe writes the Rad Reads newsletter (30K+ subscribers), all about supercharging your productivity by working on the right things. I love the way he thinks about things, and I'm sure attending his workshop will be a blast.
10 Annual Review Takeaways (Chris Sparks): Last January, Chris (no relation) wrote up a few thoughts on annual reviews after completing his. I love seeing people work in public like this, and his takeaways are worth keeping in mind as you complete yours this year.
Annual Review Template (Dr. Anthony Gustin): Anthony is the only person on this list I've never met, but when I asked folks for recommendations on templates this one kept coming up (often with the caveat: I can't believe it's free!).
That’s it for this week. I’m looking forward to what’s next.
Andy.
